Method

I research my subject matter, sketch it out lightly with a soft pencil, but not always. I paint in the light colors first.   I have also been using a paint brush directly onto my paper, so no pencil lines are involved.

Details require my use of a magnifying glass or Luxo lamp.   While on staff at Tiffany & Co., I used a jeweler's loop for custom monograms, decorative patterns for stationery, and coats of arms drawn to actual size.

Winsor Newton gouache, watercolors, Micron Pigma pens and colored pencils are my tools of choice.  I like to use plate and vellum finish Bristol board or paper but like experimenting.Trying new mediums is part of the fun, however.

I enjoy taking photographs wherever I go. I look for unusual subjects, creative angles and colors. NYC has an opportunity around every corner.

A project for a CBIG workshop "Antony and Cleopatra". B&W. Micron Pigma pens.

Drawn with a watercolor brush right on to the paper.  "Homage to Chef Paul Prudhomme," a famed New Orleans chef.

Research at Granary Burial Ground, Boston for "The Real Mother Goose".

"Mother Goose Reinvented"" a CBIG exhibit. I chose to  illustrate a semi-biographical one and two others based on folklore and history.
